Quick tip #1

Recently my dad dispensed some advice to me over the phone. When I went out on film shoots and learned something new - he suggested I write it down somewhere later that night. Couldn't hurt...

The last two shoots I was on each had a broken boom pole. The first one was missing the screw that keeps the pole connected to the mount. The second's mount wouldn't hold the microphone. It would fall out if you needed to turn the pole upside down.

Quick thinking and rubber bands and gaffer's tape gets you microphones that don't budge on the pole during filming. Carefully taped microphones get you a sturdy mic and boom pole while you're hanging it off of the balcony of this.

I should use the tag "boom poles" more often.
